Fitz Maurice won the Jackson Pollock-Lee Krasner Award based primarily on the paintings from this Tree Series. This New York Foundation gives awards based on artistic merit after reviewing an artist’s portfolio. The art must reflect a consistant professional level over ten years time. This Tree Series was also featured in the 2003 issue of, “Art in America.”
While globe-trotting, the artist keeps both eyes peeled for outstanding trees. Many of these tree paintings were inspired by trees found in Europe, Canada, Hawaii, and Big Sur, California. Fitz has learned a lot about life from so closely studying and capturing the lives of trees. “It’s been interesting for me to watch people personally identifying with a particular tree.”
