Gouache Series 2008

Gouache is a water base paint. It has more pigment in the paint than watercolors. Watercolor is transparent to translucent; gouache is more about solid areas of color that do not look washed.

Fitz Maurice has created a stunningly new technique in the application of the gouache paint.  This is a "Signature Technique", because no other artist is using gouache painting this way.  

Fitz Maurice won awards and international acclaim for creating a "Signature Technique" in the oil painting--this technique was all about texture--building veils of color on top of each other.

The "Signature Technique" in the gouache painting is all about line. The line simultaneously establishes the color, direction, and movement in the painting all in one stroke. This requires the artist to be in a "Zen" state of mind, because an intense presence is demanded to paint each and every line.

The inspiration for these paintings that will make up the "Snow Series" comes literally from the artist seeing Jackson Hole with its monumental beauty and the landscape coated with snow. It is the artist's intent to reflect the magnificent nature that God has provided. The goal is to capture the essence of nature reflecting its pulse, its very breath, and its life energy. It is not about making a portrait of nature; it is not about rendering in a realistic and traditional way.

The ultimate goal is for the artist to express the spirituality that more and more people on this planet are reaching for and grasping through personal development. The priority of these like-minded people is to honor their private spirit, the spirit of others, and the spirit that thrives in every living thing, ultimately honoring God himself.

The day will come when these people that are reading and immersing themselves in the new way of life Spirituality and leaving behind the Mental, the world of mind, the world of matter, the world of money, the world of form will see and know what they are seeing when they stand in front of these paintings that they are the visualization of this Spiritual new life.
